He attended Gurukul Kangri University in Haridwar, received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, and graduated with honors. After this, he spent a year working as a pharmacist in Vadodara, and then he moved to Delhi in order to look for other employment opportunities. As soon as he arrived in Delhi, he saw a play, and he felt an immediate pull toward performing. 

In order to satisfy one of the requirements for admission to the National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi, he participated in around ten plays with a group of friends, including one in Dehradun. He did this to increase his chances of acceptance into the school.
