Career Evolution –
Tyla has had a substantial amount of development during the course of his career.
“Getting Late” was Tyla’s first song, which she self-released in late 2019, after she had graduated from high school. The song, which included production by Kooldrink, was a huge hit throughout the country. Her own manager filmed the accompanying music video at various points during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns with the intention of releasing it in January 2021.
After receiving a number of million views on YouTube, it was put in consideration for the South African Music Award in the category of Best Music Video of the Year in the year 2022.
She had been working toward a degree in mining engineering, and thanks to a great deal of convincing and “a lot of crying,” her parents had agreed to allow Tyla to take a year off from university in order to give her music career a chance to get off the ground.
She signed a recording deal with Epic Records in May 2021 through a partnership with Fax Records in the United States. She released “Overdue” in October 2021 and “To Last” in November 2022, both singles following the release of her first single.
