In the animated film Moana, which was released in 2016, Cravalho played the role of the title character. The reason why she first decided against trying out for the job was because “there were already so many great submissions that didn’t think needed to try out.”
She has revealed that she was not planning to audition for the role. However, she was sent to Los Angeles to audition for the role by a talent agent from Oahu who had found her via a charity video contest where she was participating. The casting director Rachel Sutton has revealed that out of the hundreds of actresses that tried out for the role, Cravalho was the very last one to try out.
In February of 2017, it was revealed that she had been selected to be in the pilot episode of the NBC drama Rise, which was given the green light to go into series on May 4, 2017. Although the series had its debut on March 13, 2018, NBC decided to cancel it on May 15, 2018, citing poor ratings as the reason for the decision.
During the National Memorial Day Concert that took place in May of 2017, she sang the national anthem.a citation is required. At the beginning of November 2017, Cravalho made the announcement that she will be returning to her role as Moana in the very first Disney film to be dubbed in Hawaiian. It was on June 10, 2018, when the dubbed Moana made its debut.
