The birth of Blake Tollison Shelton took place in Ada, Oklahoma. His mother, Dorothy Ann (née Bristol), was born in 1936 and owned a beauty shop. His father, Richard Lee “Dick” Shelton, was a car salesman and lived from 1940 to 2012. The young Shelton started singing at a young age, and by the time he was 12 years old, his uncle had taught him how to play the guitar via lessons.
His first song was composed by the time he was 15 years old. A Denbo Diamond Award was bestowed to him in his native state when he was sixteen years old. An vehicle accident took the life of his elder brother, Richie Shelton, who was 24 years old at the time of his death on November 13, 1990.
When he was 17 years old, he graduated from high school and headed to Nashville, Tennessee, with the intention of pursuing a career as a singer. In that location, he was able to get employment at a music publishing firm, and in the year 1997, Bobby Braddock was of assistance to him in securing a production deal with Sony Music.
