In 1984, Swisher graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in literature and journalism from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS) at Georgetown University in Washington, District of Columbia. At that time, Swisher was studying propaganda.
She graduated with a Master of Science degree in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in the year 1985. In addition, she “spent some time” at Duke University, where she studied propaganda and disinformation, which Swisher described as “always my area of study.”
Following the collapse of the Berlin Wall, Swisher was awarded a scholarship that furnished her with the opportunity to reside in Kreuzberg, Berlin, for almost a year. She made an effort to study German in order to be ready for a future job inside “the security apparatus,” but she was never able to get a complete command of the language.
In 1997, Swisher became a member of The Wall Street Journal and began working from the publication’s San Francisco office. Boom Town was a column that she conceived up and authored.
It was dedicated to the businesses, characters, and culture of Silicon Valley, and it was published on the front page of the Marketplace section of the Wall Street Journal as well as online. It was at that time period that Industry Standard magazine referred to her as the most prominent reporter covering the internet.

Kara Swisher Awards and Achievements
In 2016, Swisher made the announcement that she intended to compete for the position of mayor of San Francisco in 2023 as a Democrat. She was then characterized as having a “highly progressive” platform that she was likely to run on.
Swisher published an essay for Slate in 2018 about her experiences working for The McLaughlin Group. In the post, she claimed that presenter John McLaughlin sexually harassed women and assaulted staff members. When she was thinking about his passing in 2016, she wrote, “I’m so glad he’s dead. He passed away from prostate cancer.” I am so relieved that he has passed away. He was a complete dolt. He was deserving of it.
After the confrontation that took place at the Lincoln Memorial in January 2019, Swisher addressed those individuals who were dissatisfied with a Gillette advertisement. He said, “And to all of you aggrieved folks who thought this Gillette ad was too much bad-men-shaming, after we just saw it come to life with those awful kids and their fetid smirking harassing that elderly man on the Mall: Go fuck yourselves.”
As an illustration of how many media accounts of the story had been inaccurate, Caitlin Flanagan of The Atlantic Monthly made the following observation: “You know the left has really changed in this country when you find its denizens… lionizing the social attitudes of the corporate monolith Procter & Gamble.”
Flanagan noted that Swisher’s comment was an example of how inaccurate many media accounts had been. After two days had passed, Swisher issued an apology in a subsequent tweet. The official companion podcast for the third and fourth seasons of the television series Succession, which is produced by HBO, was presented by Swisher in the years 2021 and 2023.
