Cobo is of Lebanese heritage and was born in Cali, Colombia. He was born in Colombia. She attended Javeriana University in Bogota, where she eventually received a bachelor’s degree in journalism. In addition to performing in a large number of concerts, she graduated with a second degree in piano playing from Manhattan School of Music in New York City.
Cobo had a successful career as a classical pianist in her native country of Colombia. She performed as a soloist with the Colombian Symphony Orchestra (Orquesta Sinfonica de Colombia), the Orquesta Sinfonica de Antioquia in Medellin, and the Orquesta Sinfonica del Valle in Cali, amongst other orchestras.
Additionally, she was included on several occasions in the concert series that was held at the Biblioteca Luis Angel Arango, where she performed both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles. Orquesta Sinfonica del Valle was the ensemble that Cobo performed with in his last solo concert, which was a rendition of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3.
In spite of the fact that she would subsequently engage in infrequent performances, she devoted herself to pursuing a career in communications. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and earned a degree in Communication management from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California.

Leila Cobo Awards and Achievements
She has been honored with a number of honors, including the Leading Latin Lady award in 2017, which was presented by the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences; the TJ Martell Trailblazer Award, which was presented in 2019; and the “Wonder Women of Latin Music” award, which was presented by the Latin American Music Council in 2020.
It was in March of 2014 that Latino Show Magazine in New York City honored Cobo with the title of Woman of the Year. In addition, she was acknowledged as one of the 12 South Florida Hispanic Women of Distinction in the year 2012, and in the year 2008.
She was deemed to be one of the Most Influential People in Latin music by publications such as Gatopardo and Revista Fuchsia. Ocean Drive Magazine recognized her as one of its “Power Brokers” in the same year. In 2007, she was honored with the Nielsen President’s Award for Excellence as well as the journalistic excellence award from Premios Orquidea.
Both of these awards are presented to Colombians who have achieved remarkable success in their careers working outside of the country. In the year 2017, the Latin Recording Academy honored her by bestowing upon her the title of Leading Ladies of Entertainment.
