At the age of eight, Dončić’s father began his career as a player for Union Olimpija, the team that he had grown up with. Grega Brezovec, the coach of the Olimpija Basketball School, extended an invitation to Dončić to participate in practice sessions among players of his age.
The coaching team made the decision to shift Dončić to the 11-year-old group. This occurred just sixteen minutes into his first training session. Beginning with the next session, he dedicated the majority of his practice time to the Olimpija under-14 squad.
Despite this, Dončić was only allowed to participate in the club’s under-12 selection squad owing to the regulations of the league. He was forced to come off the bench against opponents who were three or four years older than him. Despite the fact that he was not allowed to participate in under-14 games at the time, Dončić often requested to be present at practice, even when his coach requested that he remain at home.
