Banks spent her childhood in Inglewood, a suburb of Los Angeles, where she attended a local Catholic school that was exclusively for female students. Both of her parents were working in the field of photography and computer consulting. Her father was a computer consultant. When she was 15 years old, Banks began her career as a model, and she compiled a portfolio of her work with the assistance of her mother.

It was around the age of seventeen that she started looking for professional representation from modeling agencies in the area.
