When Taylor-Joy was six years old, her family moved to the Victoria neighborhood of London. Prior to that, she attended Northlands School in Buenos Aires, where she resided with her family throughout her childhood. She speaks both Spanish and English with complete fluency.
Taylor-Joy described the transfer as “traumatic”, initially refusing to learn English, assuming she would eventually return to Argentina. he participated in school performances at Hill House International Junior School and Queen’s Gate School, but her role went uncredited.
She struggled socially in university. Her first appearance on television was in an episode of the investigative drama series Endeavour, in which she played the role of Philippa Collins-Davidson. Thereafter, she appeared in a multi-episode arc in the fantasy-adventure drama series Atlantis, which aired in 2015. In the same year, she had a starring role in the period horror film The Witch, which was directed by Robert Eggers.
The film follows the narrative of a Puritan family that comes into contact with forces of evil in the woods outside their New England estate. It was well praised by critics when it made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015. It was the part that took her by storm.
In his review for The New Yorker, Anthony Lane referred to Taylor-Joy as “remarkable in the role, her wide-eyed innocence entwined with a thread of cunning—proof either of her quick wits, scarcely unusual in a clever and curious girl, or of some fell purpose.” She received the Empire Award for Best Female Newcomer and the Gotham Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Actor.

Anya Taylor-Joy Awards and Achievements
Her role in the film Split, directed by M. Night Shyamalan and starring James McAvoy, was that of Casey Cooke, a young girl who was kidnapped by a guy who had several personalities. The film cast her alongside McAvoy in 2016. Despite having a budget of just $9 million, it was a financial triumph, bringing in a total of $278.5 million.
Cory Finley’s first picture as a director, Thoroughbreds, was the next project she worked on during that year. Both Olivia Cooke and Anton Yelchin, who was playing his last film role, appeared in it together. She portrayed the role of Lily, a high school girl who plots to assassinate her stepfather by entering into a contract with a drug dealer. Taylor-Joy fulfilled the role.
David Ehrlich of IndieWire, who attended the 2018 Sundance Film Festival where it made its world debut, described her performance as “captivating”. Sergio G. Sanchez published Marrowbone, a horror mystery, as her third book in 2017. Tasha Robinson of The Verge stated that Taylor-Joy provided “a shy, appealing warmth” to an inconsistent character in the book.
In the same year that she received a nomination for the BAFTA Rising Star Award, Taylor-Joy received the Trophée Chopard at the Cannes Film Festival. She portrayed Petronella Oortman in the December 2017 BBC One historical drama miniseries The Miniaturist. Jessie Burton’s book of the same name served as the inspiration for The Miniaturist.
In 2019, the psychological superhero film Glass, the third and final installment of the Unbreakable film trilogy, saw Taylor-Joy reprise her role as Casey Cooke. Other cast members included McAvoy, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sarah Paulson.
It was a commercial triumph, bringing in a total of $247 million all around the globe. She made an appearance later that year in both the music video for Hozier’s song “Dinner & Diatribes” and the documentary film Love, Antosha, which was about the life and career of her late co-star Anton Yelchin.
Her subsequent two films, Playmobil: The Movie, an animated musical adventure picture, and Radioactive, a biographical drama film, both failed to do well at the box office. Additionally, she provided the voice for the role of Brea in the fantasy series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance television series. She later portrayed Gina Gray in the BBC One historical crime thriller series Peaky Blinders. This was her last performance of 2019.
